On February 21, the first generation unit (No.1 unit) in Yeywa hydropower station was official put into power generation upon successfully completing its 72 hours’ load commissioning. The unit operated well and had generated 11.15 million kWh power output during commissioning.

Yeywa Station is the largest hydropower station in Myanmar in terms of total installed capacity, thus is often mentioned as “Myanmar’s Three Gorges Project”. Its 132m high and 690m wide dam locates on the Myitinge river, 50km southeast of Mandalay city. Its reservoir capacity reaches 14,5800 acres. Each of its four generation unit has capacity of 197.5MW, the largest ones ever exported by Sinohydro. It is expected that after all four units are put into operation, annual power output of the station will reach 3.55 billion kWh, bringing enormous economic and social benefits to the central part of Myanmar. Due to its importance, it attracts wide attention. The Prime Minister of Myanmar visited the Yeywa site to send his support, and the Minister of Electric Power sent Sinohydro his congratulations. The client and engineers also spoke highly of Sinohydro’s performance.

In July 2005, Sinohydro signed a project contract with the Ministry of Electric Power of Myanmar. Sinohydro’s work scope covers all gates, four penstocks, embedded parts for all units, four units of 197.5MW vertical Francis turbines, 230kv substation and all metal and M&E equipments.
