Foundation stone is laid for Adjarala Dam

 Presidents of Togo, Faure Gnassingbé, and  Bénin, Thomas Boni-Yayi, on December 26 have laid at Aplahoué (Bénin),  Adjarala dam’s foundation stone . Works will start next March and will last 4 years. Also present were the energy ministers of Togo and Benin, which will own the project upon completion. “The Adjarala dam will allow our countries to meet their energy needs in the short term, and therefore to limit imports” declared Ably Bidamon, the Togolese Energy Minister. Mr Liang Jun, CEO of Sinohydro Corp. Ltd declared Adjarala Power Station will be the first trans-boundary project, putting three partners together.
The Adjarala Hydropower Station project is located on the Mono River where Togo and Benin meet. The main work of the project includes the construction of earth and rockfill dam with average height of nearly 40 meters and a total length of 3700 meters. The project includes the hydropower station installation with total capacity of 147MW and the pavement of corresponding transmission lines. The financing of  USD 550 million  will be assured by a loan from Exim Bank of China.
