Jatigede Dam Near Completion

Construction of the Jatigede Dam in Sumedang, West Java, Indonesia, was 99.7% complete in early June. The dam is being developed on 48.91sq km of land across five districts and will have capacity to hold 979mn cu m of water. The dam is scheduled to start operating in July. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing will fill the reservoir by the end of July, according to Director General of Water Resources Mudjiadi (the Jakarta Post). The project will include a 2x55MW hydropower plant, which cost USD150mn. Indonesian state-owned utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara and Chinese firm SINOHYDRO Corporation will develop the power plant, which is expected to start operating in 2019.
