On Feb. 25, 2013, the groundbreaking ceremony of Soubré Hydropower Project was held on the project site, west of Cote d’Ivoire, marking its official commencement. President Alassane Dramane Ouattara, accompanied by local officials, attended the event. During the ceremony, President Ouattara – along with the Chinese ambassador to Ivory Coast, Mr. Zhang Guoqing, and SINOHYDRO representatives – buried the first foundation stone.
The 274 MW Soubré is the largest hydropower project in Cote d'Ivoire. The construction is expected to be completed in five years, with SINOHYDRO as the EPC contractor fulfilling the job. At the moment, necessary preliminary work has been carried out according to plan. The project will not only help build public facilities and boost local employment during construction but will also effectively cut down the country’s power importation costs after completion, bringing real benefits to the local people.
